Sweet Potato Stir Fry (More Information)
This is a pretty basic stir fry that is pretty simple to make. The rice provides the substance for this dish. However, the rice could be easily replaced with quinoa, wild rice or any other grain of choice.
The sweet potato also provides substance however the sweet potato also adds to the flavor of this dish. When it is cooked up, the starches in the sweet potato breaks down and makes the sweet potato sweeter.
Meanwhile, the tomato and the broccoli will become richer when cooked. This balances out the sweetness of the sweet potato and keeps from the dish from becoming sweet and instead makes the dish richer by giving it a deeper flavor.
Finally, the carrots and onions serve to enhance the flavors. They provide a base for the real stars of this dish: tomatoes and sweet potatoes. The onions do add flavor of their own, adding some spiciness to the dish, but the flavor of the onion is not as strong as that of the tomato or the sweet potato.
An Additional Step
After cooking these ingredients as a stir fry, one optional extra step is to bake the stir fry into patties, making stir fry patties. Letting this dish cool for at least half an hour will help the fats from the tomato solidify and the starchy sugars from the rice and sweet potatoes stick together. The blending will release those fats and starches, binding all the ingredients together. That way once blended then packed together the patties won't fall apart easily when eating.
