Yeast is a fungus used in the process of fermenting foods, such as beer, wine (a yeast called brewer's yeast) and used in leavening agent in baked goods (called baker's yeast). Brewer's yeast is often used to fortify foods with B vitamins while baker's yeast is used to produce carbon dioxide inside dough and cause them to rise.
