Shopping with Allergies
The most challenging part of living with food allergies isn't the cooking (watching just one episode of Cooking With Limits should be enough evidence of that). The most challenging part of living with food allergies is the shopping.
In general, you should be able to easily tell what is in your foods simply by reading the ingredient list. If you are uncertain about some ingredient, call the company. If they don't give you a straight answer then it isn't worth buying that product; buy from companies that will openly tell you their ingredients. It is not worth taking any risks with your health.
Also be sure to ask if there are [insert name of food you are avoiding here] products packaged in the same factory or on the same equipment. In cases of severe allergies, a trace of the foods can be enough to trigger an allergic response. Sometimes the package will tell you and sometimes it won't. Call the company to be sure. If they don't tell you (or if the company doesn't know), then buy another brand. That is what makes living in a country with so many food choices so great.
Below are the guides to avoiding certain foods. These lists are not comprehensive and are provided for general informational purposes. Please consult a health professional for more information.
